'Hillary was right': Ex-Trump voter sounds off after leaving Republican party

A former Trump voter who was all in for the MAGA movement is now convinced that the former president's one-time Democratic nemesis Hillary Clinton was spot-on.

Texas Trey, a former lifelong Republican, appeared on CNN's "Laura Coates Live" to discuss how he ditched the GOP to become an independent and in retrospect believes former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had former President Donald Trump's number.

"She was absolutely right about everything that she said," he stated.

He went on to say, "Though I didn't necessarily pay too much attention to the things that she said going back, hindsight's very clear, very clear."

In the past, before he had his political awakening, Trey said he had believed he was doing the country a service by voting Republican up and down the line.

"I thought it was my patriotic duty more than anything else," he said. "Coming into 2016 when Donald Trump was running my vote for Trump wasn't so much about supporting him as it was a vote against Hillary, if you will. She didn't have anything to offer that necessarily appealed to me."

Trey thought Hillary would win the 2016 election and when Trump was named the victor he said he was "shocked".

Come November 5, Trey said his eyes are wide open.

"Really, this election is a referendum on freedom and democracy at this point," he said. "A lot of people say, you know, we're republic, well, yes, but we have democratic processes and principles that underpin that republic."

In fact, Trey said that he is voting purely to protect the country from losing its foundation.

"To me it really boils down to this: we can vote for a man who by voting for him, those principles and processes will survive and we will live to fight another day in terms of being able to work through our issues," said Trey. "A vote for Trump runs the risk of losing all of that, to run the risk of the man said himself, he wants to be a dictator on day one. I don't know if many dictators that are willing to give up authority once it's granted to them."
