‘I’m hearing’: Fabrizio Romano shares what he now knows about Tottenham’s buy-back clause for Harry Kane

Harry Kane left Tottenham this summer in one of the most shocking transfer deals in recent memory.

The striker looked as though he would be at Spurs for life, but last year he took the drastic decision of leaving the Premier League altogether to join Bayern Munich.

Of course, Kane’s first season in Bavaria hasn’t gone to plan, it doesn’t look as though he’ll win a trophy this term, and there’s been some chat about Kane returning to Tottenham.

Indeed, earlier this year, Daniel Levy hinted at there being a buy-back clause in Kane’s contract, but according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, that may not be the case.

The truth about Harry Kane’s buy-back clause

Romano shared what he knows about Kane’s buy-back clause, claiming that there isn’t a traditional clause to be triggered but a gentleman’s agreement that would mean Spurs are the first to be informed if Kane is to move.

“No at the moment I don’t have any confirmation on that. More than a traditional buy-back clause, from what I’m hearing it’s more of a gentleman’s agreement between the clubs where if they decide to sell Harry Kane in the future, Tottenham will be made aware of the decision.

“This is the discussion that took place between Bayern and Tottenham, but it’s not a traditional buy-back clause where you can go there and put down the money and the player is coming back the following day, I don’t think it’s an automatic clause, but more of a gentleman’s agreement,” Romano said.

Harry Kane won’t be leaving

Harry Kane could well end up back at Tottenham one day, but it won’t be this summer.

Kane left Spurs to win trophies. He’s surely not going to come back after one barren season with Bayern Munich.

If there’s anything we know about Bayern Munich over the years it’s that if you give them enough time, they will win trophies, and if Kane stays in Bavaria for another season or two, he will have some winners’ medals to his name.
