'End at right time' Neville loves Moyes but says West Ham can attract top managers

There remains uncertainty over the future of David Moyes at West Ham but Gary Neville believes the club is attractive for top managers.

The top source inside West Ham has reiterated to Hammers News that a decision will be taken on the manager’s future at the end of the season.

West Ham’s owners are approaching a major crossroads regarding David Moyes in the coming weeks.

The Scot has insisted it is he who is stalling on signing a new Hammers contract.

Despite’s West Ham’s success under Moyes over the last four years there is a section of fans unhappy with his style of play and approach.

Moyes future to be decided at the end of the season

Supporters calling for a change of manager to one with a more modern, attacking philosophy have been pilloried by many for having the temerity to want a better quality of football.

Now one of Sky Sports’ top pundits has delivered a more considered view.

Gary Neville loves Moyes but says West Ham will be attractive for top managers.

Speaking on the new episode of The Overlap Fan Debate, Neville says West Ham are ‘caught between the devil and the deep blue sea’ over Moyes’ future.

But he says West Ham are a huge club who would be a very attractive proposition for managers.

‘Huge’ West Ham are an attractive proposition

“They’ve got this manager who is so consistent, who never lands them in trouble, who gets them into the top half of the table – the prize money in the Premier League is huge – they’re competing for trophies, they’re in the latter stages of European competition and yet there are fans who aren’t happy because of the style of play,” Neville said.

“It’s a little bit like Spurs when I was watching them a few seasons ago… and I said Spurs fans are never going to be happy if the style of play is like this even if they’re challenging for trophies, they’re just never going to be happy. And I think West Ham fans have got to that point where they’re just feeling like the sort of balance of the scales are tipping…

“I think a lot (of managers would be interested),” Neville added.

“I think West Ham would be a really sought after club because I think you’ve got a good group of players and I think that (you look at Roberto) De Zerbi comes to Brighton and all of a sudden plays football that’s out of this world, (Ange) Postecoglou – obviously we know from Celtic – was third or fourth choice for Spurs and all of a sudden he comes in and basically absolutely smashes it out of the park when it comes to the football, he’s blown us all away this season.

Neville on what West Ham’s owners will be thinking

“So I think there are (managers out there). I wouldn’t undersell West Ham on how big a club that is and how big a job that is. I was there a few weeks ago for the Monday Night Football – Brentford on a Monday night – and there was over 55/60,000 people in that stadium on a Monday night. It’s incredible really, when you think about the amount of people who go and watch, it’s a massive club.

“I love David Moyes and I think he’s done an unbelievable job. But I think the owners will be sat there thinking ‘We better be careful what we wish for here, we might get a few more passes but all of a sudden you could be 15th in the table thinking oh my god we need David Moyes back’…

“Chasing the style bit – which I agree with – but if it’s going to end then it has to end at the right time that’s going to progress the club not destabilise it.”

Speaking last month, Neville’s fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said he believes ‘the time has come’ for Moyes and West Ham to part ways this summer.
