Report: Manchester United interested in £52m Bundesliga star, Pep Guardiola thinks he’s simply ‘incredible’

The summer transfer window is still a while away but Manchester United fans may already be getting excited for the real start of a new era.

Yes, Erik ten Hag and his players have to remain focused on the push for Champions League qualification.

United aren’t out of the mix just yet and a strong end to the season could secure a spot in next season’s competition.

Regardless of the outcome, this summer promises to be a big one with Ineos stamping their mark on the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co are bound to spark a change of approach in the transfer market and fans will be hoping for some exciting additions.

Fabrizio Romano has already outlined that United will likely sign a centre back, a left back, a midfielder and a striker.

Supporters may want a few more additions yet and one interesting rumour has emerged in that regard…

Manchester United want Bundesliga star

A playmaker maybe wasn’t on the radar for many United fans with Bruno Fernandes playing such a key role in midfield.

A new name is in the mix though as the Daily Mail report that United are interested in landing RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

It’s stated that Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on the Spaniard.

Olmo can leave RB Leipzig for £52million this summer with a release clause in his contract becoming active this summer.

Olmo has previously admitted his desire to play in the Premier League and United could offer him that chance.

Dani Olmo stats

The 25-year-old started the season in style, hitting a hat-trick to destroy Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup in August.

Olmo hasn’t quite hit the same heights over the course of the season though, bagging just three goals and four assists in 15 Bundesliga games.

Olmo – who has played on the left wing, right wing and as a number 10 this season – has missed chunks of the season with two injuries.

Now back and ready to get back to his best, Olmo has now bagged 28 goals and 33 assists in 142 games for RB Leipzig.

Pep Guardiola loves Olmo

United need to make some major additions to close the gap to Manchester City and Olmo could be one player to make a difference.

Speaking back in 2019, City boss Pep Guardiola hailed Olmo as an ‘incredible’ player.

Guardiola reiterated the message in 2021, calling Olmo ‘fantastic’ whilst playing down links with a move to City.

Guardiola clearly admires Olmo but there is now a real chance for United to swoop in and bring him to Old Trafford, potentially leaving City disappointed.

Yes, there is plenty of competition for Olmo’s signature but at £52million, this is one deal that Ratcliffe and co may seriously push for this summer.
