Bryan Robson says Manchester United have a top 18-year-old in their ranks with amazing 'mental control'

Whenever a generational talent makes his breakthrough, it’s always a source of delight for his club and fans, and Manchester United are currently in that very position.

Obviously I’m referring to Kobbie Mainoo, who in the space of a season has gone from a top prospect to a player the Red Devils and England could potentially build their future teams around.

Mainoo only made his first Premier League start in November last year, but he has very quickly become one of Manchester United’s main players.

At just 18 years of age, the Red Devils midfielder has already made 23 competitive appearances for the Old Trafford side, and now he has two senior England caps to his name.

Earlier this week, Mainoo made his first start for the Three Lions, and he was head and shoulders above many of the players on the field.

For an 18-year-old who is still relatively inexperienced in the senior game, to do this in an international encounter full of seasoned stars shows just how brilliant he is.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester United legend Bryan Robson, who took part in the latest No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, was asked about Mainoo.

What has Bryan Robson said about Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo?

The Red Devils Global Ambassador spoke highly of the player, and also revealed what he’s like in training behind the scenes.

“It’s always great when you’re connected with a club and a young lad comes through from the academy and they impress, but mentally and physically they impress,” he said.

“For me since I saw him in pre-season when we’re over in the US, he played against Arsenal and he was playing against Declan Rice and he did really well in the game.

“Unfortunately he got injured and that kept him out for quite a time.

“But it’s his control, and his mental control. The lad looks as if he’s grounded, he keeps his feet on the ground, he’s really pleasant around the training camp.

“And so if he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps working in his game he’s got a great chance to have a great career with England and a great career with Manchester United.”

It’s always brilliant when an academy talent breaks into the first team, and even more so when the player in question is a generational talent.

Mainoo is pretty much as complete as you can get from a young player. And he’s still at the very start of his career. It’ll be very exciting to see how he continues to develop in the coming years.
