Trailer for new Netflix movie has a list of ridiculous cameos, including Hugh Grant as Tony the Tiger

It’s not uncommon for movies to boast the odd cameo but the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming movie, Unfrosted, is jam-packed with famous faces.

The last few years have seen a slew of movies that have told the story of how real-life businesses or products came to exist, notably The Founder (McDonald’s) and The Social Network (Facebook), and now Jerry Seinfeld is taking up the challenge of bringing the story of the humble Pop-Tart to our screens.

What is Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story about?

As its title suggests, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story tells the tale of how Kellogg’s invented the world-conquering toaster pastry.

Set in 1960s Michigan, Kellogg’s and their sworn cereal rivals, Post, race to get their breakfast pastries onto supermarket shelves.

While the movie’s narrative may mirror real-life events to a degree, writer, director and star Jerry Seinfeld (in his directorial debut and his first starring role since 2007’s Bee Movie) looks to take a more satirical approach to the topic.

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story will be leaping out of the toaster and onto Netflix on May 3, 2024.

The movie’s ridiculous cast and cameos

As well as boasting Jerry Seinfeld in its leading role, Unfrosted has assembled a frankly mind-boggling cast, with a plethora of famous faces in both major roles and minor cameos.

Melissa McCarthy appears as one of the co-developers of the Pop-Tart while Amy Schumer plays one of their competitors at cereal rivals Post.

In terms of notable cameos, Hugh Grant will play Thurl, a Shakespearean actor forced to play the iconic mascot Tony the Tiger.

Several other cereal mascots appear too as Kyle Mooney, Mike Day and Drew Tarver appear as Snap, Crackle and Pop while Andy Daly features as a character who looks suspiciously like the Quaker mascot.

On top of that, James Marsden of Enchanted fame appears as fitness and nutrition guru Jack LaLane and Kyle Dunnigan of Reno 911! appears as legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite.

Arguably the most hair-raising cameo seen in the trailer, however, is that of Bill Burr who portrays President John F. Kennedy, complete with a full head of hair.

Also featuring in the cast of Unfrosted are:

  • Jim Gaffigan (Jim Gaffigan: Comedy Monster)
  • Max Greenfield (New Girl)
  • Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones)
  • Christian Slater (Heathers)
  • Daniel Levy (Schitt’s Creek)
  • Jack McBrayer (30 Rock)
  • Thomas Lennon (A Futile and Stupid Gesture)
  • Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live)
  • Adrian Martinez (The Guilty)
  • Sarah Cooper (Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine)
  • Fred Armisen (Portlandia)
  • Tony Hale (Arrested Development)
  • Felix Solis (Ozark)
  • Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)
  • Dean Norris (Breaking Bad)
  • Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book)
  • Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live)
  • Cedric the Entertainer (Madagascar)
  • John Slattery (Howard Stark in the MCU)
  • Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
  • Aparna Nancherla (BoJack Horseman)
  • Sarah Burns (Barry)
  • Rachael Harris (Lucifer)
  • Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911!)

“It’s a huge cast. I don’t know how it got so big,” Seinfeld told Netflix Tudum. “I remember that we had nobody for a long time. And then Hugh Grant called and said he heard about the movie, and he wanted to be Tony the Tiger. Then, the next thing I knew, everybody was in it, and it was incredible.”
