Report: Man Utd will need to pay at least £26m to sign 'one of the world's best' defenders

Manchester United could have to spend at least £30m in order to sign one centre-half target this summer.

The centre-half position is a priority this summer for Manchester United, as injuries have led to it becoming a problem for Erik ten Hag.

With a strong centre-back department on paper, it is annoying that each player has missed substantial time through injury this season.

The contracts of both Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans will expire this summer, while Victor Lindelof will be up for sale.

So reinforcements will be needed, and a refreshment of the position with younger players coming in who fit the mould of what Ten Hag needs.

Countless names have been mentioned already now the asking price for one has been suggested…

Manchester United would need to pay £26m to sign 18-year-old

This summer, in the search of strengthening the defence, United are clearly looking to sign a teenage prospect.

Leny Yoro, Aaron Anselmino and lastly Dean Huijsen have all been linked, with the latter now having his price tag named.

The Spanish centre-back is currently on loan but will return to Juventus in June.

From here it’s possible United could make their move, but now according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, it’ll cost Ineos at least €30m (£26m), plus bonuses.

He’s a prospect and while this fee seems steep right now, there’s every chance that in a year, he will be worth double this fee as his Roma boss Daniele de Rossi has tipped him to become “one of the world’s best”.

Huijsen is the second Juventus defender that United have been linked with, as Brazilian Bremer has also been tipped as an option this summer.

Ineos are clearly looking for the next great centre-half

The fact that United are looking at a host of teenage defensive talents does suggest a clear switch in emphasis for United.

In previous years, recruitment has been off, and as a result, United have missed out on several top talents.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe doesn’t want this and has already made his preference for recruitment clear which explains why United are chasing young talents.

It does seem that on top of signing a starting-level defender, United will also grab one for the future, one of Anselmino, Yoro and Huijsen could soon be at Old Trafford.
