'Verbal pact': Fabrizio Romano claims 'exceptional' £60m Manchester United target could now leave a year early

Manchester United need to be active in the summer transfer window and a centre back will surely be a top priority.

Ineos will be looking to make big changes this summer and recruitment has to be better.

Fans are expecting some important signings and centre back is one area where fans may be expecting reinforcements.

Decent money has been invested in the likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane over the years, but United have yet to really find the answer at centre back.

Lisandro Martinez is a quality centre back but his injury record means United need other options at the back.

We have already seen Fabrizio Romano suggest that four players – a centre back, left back, midfielder and striker – will arrive at United this summer.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is thought to still be on the radar whilst Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano has been linked this week.

Another name in the mix is Juventus ace Bremer with reports earlier in March suggesting that Bremer had become a key focus for United.

Fabrizio Romano on Bremer

It was suggested that a £43million release clause in Bremer’s contract had given United hope of luring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported on social media that the clause in Bremer’s deal becomes valid in the summer of 2025, not this summer.

However, Romano believes that there is a ‘verbal pact’ for Juventus to listen to offers of the same price.

Romano does though suggest that the clause is actually worth €60million or even €70million – around £51million to £60million.

That is more expensive than first imagined but the notion of Juventus listening to offers could spark United into action.

Who is Manchester United target Bremer?

Bremer started out in the ranks of Desportivo Brasil before spending time on loan at Sao Paulo as a teenager.

Atletico Mineiro snapped Bremer up in 2017 and he made just 33 appearances for the club before heading to Europe.

Torino landed Bremer in the summer of 2018, luring him to Italy at the age of just 21 and following little experience in Brazil.

Bremer became one of Serie A’s very best defenders with Torino and it was no surprise when he was plucked by Juventus in a £45million move.

Praised as an ‘exceptional’ defender by Juventus legend Sergio Brio, Bremer continues to excel in Italy but he has only picked up four caps for Brazil.

Maybe a move to the Premier League will help Bremer progress his career and earn more caps and United may be looking to tempt him this summer.
