Monitor: Israeli strike on Hezbollah in Syria kills one, wounds five

At least one person was killed and five others affiliated with pro-Iranian militias were wounded in an Israeli airstrike on their headquarters near the Syrian capital Damascus on Friday, a monitoring group said.

The Syrian observatory for Human Rights said one person who was not identified was killed in the Israeli strike which hit a Hezbollah headquarters in the Al-Bahdalia area near Sayyida Zeinab.

Five Syrian nationals working with pro-Iranian Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement were also wounded in the strike.

The state-run Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that "the Israeli enemy launched an aerial aggression from the direction of occupied Syrian Golan, targeting a residential building in Damascus countryside," citing a military source.

The Israeli army did not comment on the strike.

Israel has been bombing targets in Syria with the goal of hitting Iranian forces based there. Israel aims to prevent Iran and its allied militias from expanding their military influence in the country.

Israeli attacks have increased on Syria since the Gaza war began on October 7.
