Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart reacts to SFA's Brendan Rodgers ban

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has given his thoughts on being without manager Brendan Rodgers in the dugout for this weekend’s trip to Livingston.

Rodgers has been handed a two-match touchline ban after comments made about John Beaton and Don Robertson in the wake of a controversial defeat to Hearts.

However, one half of the ban is suspended until the end of the season meaning that the Bhoys boss will be back in place for the trip to face Rangers.

Hart is one of the big dressing room leaders at Celtic and was on media duties today ahead of the visit to West Lothian on Sunday lunchtime.

Asked how much of an impact it will make, Hart said in a press conference: “It’s the same with the players. You want your best players available, you want your leader and your manager available. Sometimes you have situations like this.

“He’s had more than long enough to put his message across of what he needs and what he wants from us. We have an incredible coaching staff who have been here for a good while now and who we all feel comfortable with.

“There’s no doubt we want Brendan in the dugout with us but the rules say that he’s not there. He’s going to do everything he possibly can to help us and that’s no different.

“John Kennedy will step in. He’s an exceptional coach and got managerial skills learning from Brendan in the past and working with Ange. We’re looking forward to seeing what he’s got.”

There are no excuses for Celtic on Sunday – three points are a must even without the manager available during the 90 minutes.

Theoretically, it shouldn’t have too much impact on the performance as a one-off situation. Rodgers will be in the dressing room and at the match ready to pass on instructions.

Hart knows as well as anyone that this part of the season is down to the players first and foremost. Play to their capabilities and the crucial title-race victory should be in the bag.
