Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher both saying same thing over Sir Alex Ferguson as ‘GOAT’ manager is named

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher both felt the same way about a legendary accomplishment that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson achieved.

Considered one of the best managers of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford for the last time as Manchester United head coach in 2013.

The legendary 82-year-old ex-United boss led the Red Devils to their 13th Premier League title – and his last – under his illustrious 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

United have struggled in the aftermath of the Ferguson era, with the Red Devils not lifting the league title since the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season.

Despite his prolific spell at United, Ferguson built a name for himself in Scotland and achieved incredible success with Scottish side Aberdeen.

The United legend lifted three Scottish Premier Division titles, four Scottish Cups, a Scottish League Cup and a European Cup Winners’ Cup with Aberdeen.

Following his success at the Pittodrie Stadium, former United chairman Martin Edwards lured Ferguson away from Aberdeen and brought him to Old Trafford.

Carragher on Ferguson in the GOAT debate

Jamie Carragher took part in a ‘Winner Stays On’ segment for Sky Sports, with Thierry Henry giving the Liverpool legend two managers to choose from.

As the name of the segment suggests, the winner out of the two picks stays on before the contestant – in this case Carragher – chooses the best manager overall.

Carragher firstly picked former England manager Fabio Capello ahead of ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who the Sky Sports pundit played under at Anfield.

Former Spain manager Vicente del Bosque then knocked Fabio Capello out before ex-Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho took his place.

Carragher stuck with Jose Mourinho ahead of Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti before Dutch icon Johan Cruyff came up.

Legendary former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff was then knocked out by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola – his protegee – in Carragher’s picks.

Carragher kept with Pep Guardiola ahead of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who will leave Anfield at the end of the current Premier League season.

However, the 46-year-old former Liverpool and England defender then knocked Guardiola out of the segment and went for Sir Alex Ferguson as the ‘GOAT.’

Henry and Carragher agree on Ferguson feat

Carragher paused before he picked Ferguson ahead of former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Guardiola, with the Liverpool legend backing the Scot for one reason.

Henry interjected by suggesting that Carragher went for Ferguson due to the United legend’s sensational European accomplishment with Aberdeen.

Ferguson famously led Aberdeen to the European Cup Winners’ Cup title with a stunning 2-1 upset against Spanish side Real Madrid in 1983.

Madrid’s defeat to Aberdeen was the last time that Los Blancos lost in the final of a major European tournament, marking a legendary achievement in Ferguson’s legacy.

Speaking about Guardiola and Ferguson, Carragher said: “I’m going to with Sir Alex Ferguson over Pep because…”

Henry interjected and responded: “He did it with Aberdeen.”

Carragher continued: “Yeah. Pep is probably never going to do that or take a team like that. So, I’m going to go with Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Replying to Carragher, Henry said: “So, Sir Alex is the winner.”
