King Charles remains “positive” amid his cancer treatment, according to palace sources.
The monarch, who is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, is taking “gentle steps” back towards normal public duties.
A source has said that Charles is “progressing well” during his treatment and “is positive." They also said that “the doctors are optimistic.”
The King’s outings and engagements have been restricted since the palace revealed his cancer diagnosis on February 5.
But the King is now “building back” for key engagements over the summer.
A source told PEOPLE that the King’s team is thinking about Charles’s summer schedule amid “amplified confidence” in light of the sophisticated treatment he is receiving.
However, the King’s team will not commit to any engagements and will rely on “medical advice nearer the time.”
Charles has been continuing to undertake paperwork and hold weekly meetings with the Prime Minister during his treatment.
Another source added: “One thing that has been wholly undiminished is his appetite for work.”
The King and Queen are set to attend the Sunday Easter service with accommodations in place for the King’s health.
Charles is expected to sit apart from the main congregation as recommended by his medical team to shield his health.
It is understood that he will be seated slightly away from others as part of arrangements considered an “acceptable” environment for the King at this stage.
It comes as Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, talks about the monarch being in “good spirits” during an interview.
Phillips, 46, said the King is “hugely frustrated” that he cannot do everything that he wants to do and is “pushing” his staff to let him resume more royal duties.
The King is hoping to attend summer events including Trooping the Colour and a D-Day event on June 6.
Charles and his son, the Prince of Wales are planning for an overseas visit to show support for Britain’s war veterans at the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France.

The pair will travel to Normandy to honour the sacrifices of the Second World War generation, according to the Telegraph.
Charles is also “determined to attend” his birthday parade in London in June.
For the event, the King may travel by carriage from Buckingham Palace and watch the festivities from a podium rather than on horseback.
A source told the Daily Mail: “There are a number of key events His Majesty would love to attend coming up in the diary and this is at the top of the list.”
