Fatal explosion in Bila Tserkva: One dead, eight-year-old child injured in five-story building blast

Rescuers evacuate people from a building in Bila Tserkva where an explosion occurred

SES published a video from the scene.

State Emergency Service reported that an unknown object exploded in an apartment on the third floor of a five-story building in Bila Tserkva, killing a person, body was unblocked from the rubble. Three more people, including a child, were rescued, child is currently hospitalized.

It is noted that the explosion destroyed the reinforced concrete floors between the second and fifth floors and caused a fire. Emergency workers continue to work at the scene, there is a threat of structural damage.

It is also noted that the explosion destroyed one balcony on the third floor completely and another partially. The fire in the apartments on the third and fourth floors was put out at 4PM EET.

After the explosion, a fire broke out and spread from third all the way up to the fifth floor, police reported.

Circumstances of the incident are being investigated. Patrol police officers, the investigative team of the Bila Tserkva District Police Department, rescuers and medics are working at the scene, police said in a statement.

Local Telegram channels publish videos of the fire. It is noted that, according to preliminary data, it may be caused by a gas leak.
