Oliver Glasner keeps making the same mistake at Crystal Palace, did it again in 1-1 draw vs Forest - opinion

Oliver Glasner oversaw a second consecutive 1-1 draw as Crystal Palace were pegged back by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

A fantastic strike from Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 11th minute put Crystal Palace 1-0 ahead, and Ebere Eze very nearly made it 2-0 after a phenomenal pass from Adam Wharton.

Unfortunately, some poor defending from Joachim Andersen and a bit of hesitance from Dean Henderson saw Chris Wood nod in a 61st minute equaliser.

It was a fair result – in truth – although there was another sign of Oliver Glasner making the same mistake over and over again at Crystal Palace

Well, the Austrian continues to select Will Hughes as his first choice substitute ahead of David Ozoh.

In our view, the Crystal Palace No.52 absolutely has to be the preferred switch ahead of the £6m man – he offers a significantly higher level of intensity, and can cover ground more effectively.

Hughes did better than in previous games at the City Ground today, although his lack of physicality and aerial dominance usually sees opponents gain control of central midfield when he enters the pitch.

Glasner got away with it today, although we feel this particular switch cost us against Luton Town, with the Hatters piling more and more pressure on until Cauley Woodrow eventually netted a 96th minute equaliser.

Tottenham also scored all three of their goals in the recent 3-1 defeat in N17 after Hughes entered the pitch.

David Ozoh simply has to play more

For whatever reason, Ozoh has only played one minute of football since Glasner replaced Roy Hodgson.

Whether that is because the 49-year-old simply wants to rely on his more experienced heads in the early weeks of his new job, or because the 18-year-old has not impressed him in training, remains a mystery.

However, Ozoh has been one of the bright spots in this otherwise miserable campaign.

The teenager notably changed the game at the Etihad Stadium of all places, shining up against the likes of Rodri and Bernardo Silva as Crystal Palace fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against the treble winners.

Ozoh also received praise from Crystal Palace fans for playing a massive role in seeing out the 3-2 win over Sheffield United, as he charged around the pitch and made vital interceptions, something Hughes is struggling to do right now.

Hopefully, Glasner starts to use the Valencia-born prospect more often, as he does not deserve to be completely overlooked.
