'When he gets the ball': Peter Schmeichel says Man Utd player just isn't doing 'anything for the team' right now

Manchester United played out a frustrating 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday which left Peter Schmeichel fuming.

For Erik ten Hag, a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday is a result he’ll be seeing as an Easter weekend miracle.

Manchester United were under the cosh for practically the entire game, as Brentford made lightwork of bypassing the one-man midfield of Kobbie Mainoo – it was three-on-one.

Mason Mount ended up salvaging a point despite it initially looking like a winner.

But one player has been slammed for his display which left much to be desired. Here’s what’s been said…

Peter Schmeichel blasts Marcus Rashford

During and after United’s draw with Brentford, club legend Peter Schmeichel had a lot to say about certain players, while on punditry for SuperSport.

He slammed Alejandro Garnacho for his lack of discipline and has also criticised Marcus Rashford.

“Rashford, when he gets the ball, move the ball around a bit quicker, you know he’s taking five or six touches.

“He slows it down and eventually just passes it back so doesn’t do anything for the team. So move the ball around quicker, he’s good enough to do that.”

Schmeichel clearly wasn’t impressed with Rashford’s display which like far too often this season, was poor.

Marcus Rashford’s stats for Manchester United vs Brentford

On a night when United as a collective was poor, it felt like a night when the individual brilliance of Rashford could’ve been used.

Unfortunately for United and Ten Hag, this wasn’t the case as the No. 10 struggled all game before being replaced by the eventual goalscorer, Mount.

Rashford’s stats from the game tell pretty much the entire story, as per FotMob.

  • 80 minutes
  • 1 shot
  • 95 per cent passing
  • 2 chances created
  • 54 touches
  • 1 successful dribble
  • 0 accurate crosses

Despite the chances created – which can’t have been substantial given United barely had a sniff, Rashford was playing it far too safe and was invisible for large periods of the game.

A frustrating performance, but we’re used to it now.
