'Understand...': Journalist says two Crystal Palace stars will be 'back in contention' for Man City

Crystal Palace could soon see two stars return to action as Oliver Glasner is handed a double injury boost ahead of the Eagles’ clash with Manchester City next weekend.

It was another disappointing afternoon for Crystal Palace on Saturday, as the Eagles returned to Premier League action by picking up a point at the City Ground.

As expected, Oliver Glasner’s side took the lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta and continued to have chances however, a second-half header from Chris Wood saw Nottingham Forest ensure the points were shared.

It’s becoming an aggravating theme to see the South Londoners drop points when in leading positions in what has been a mediocre season however, a glimmer of hope could now be on the horizon for Glasner.

Crystal Palace handed double injury boost ahead of Manchester City clash

One of the contributing issues to Palace’s lacklustre season has been injuries to key players, depleting the quality and depth of the squad throughout the campaign.

Taking to Twitter after the draw with Forest, journalist Edmund Brack shared his understanding of a promising update on the fitness of Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Michael Olise.

“Understand Crystal Palace are hopeful that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could be back in contention for the matchday squad vs Manchester City next Saturday.”

“Oliver Glasner mentioned in his press conference yesterday a similar plan for Michael Olise.”

With Bournemouth to play on Tuesday evening, it looks as though it could be too soon for Olise and Rak-Sakyi to replenish the squad however, Saturday’s duel at Selhurst Park could be a possibility.

Return of Olise and Rak-Sakyi could be vital for Crystal Palace

While the outsider would assume that Palace’s chances against Manchester City might be thin, the return of Olise and Rak-Sakyi would undoubtedly hand Glasner a boost ahead of the fixture.

With six Premier League goals and three assists this season from only 11 appearances this term, Olise’s impact doesn’t require much explanation.

The Frenchman’s return will be the first time that the 22-year-old is seen playing in Glasner’s system, with the City test providing a peak challenge for the vibrant star to present himself in.

Rak-Sakyi’s return should not be overlooked due to talk of Olise, with the 21-year-old having the potential to reignite his Palace career under the new boss after struggling to impose himself in the first half of the season under Hodgson.

The most important aspect for Palace will be replenishing the numbers available in the squad, not only adding quality but the room for rotation and competition, something that will surely inspire Glasner’s side to attempt to build some form before May.
