‘My type of player’… Ossie Ardiles says he has been seriously impressed by Tottenham summer signing

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has admitted there is one player at the club now who he absolutely loves.

Ange Postecoglou’s arrival in north London has seen a new lease of life pumped into this Spurs side with Champions League football on the radar.

Spurs are now playing exciting, front-footed football which is a stark contrast to what fans have seen over recent years.

The Australian’s arrival has also seen a number of new faces come through the doors at Hotspur Way and it is one of them which has impressed Ardiles.

What Ossie Ardiles said about James Maddison

Ardiles spent time in north London as both a player and manager. His time as a player saw him get his hands on the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.

Spurs’ trophy drought is there for all to see, however, players like James Maddison have arrived over the last year in the hope of bringing that to an end.

The England international has enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign for the Lilywhites, but injuries have hindered his returns in front of goal.

Maddison has still been able to provide Tottenham with four goals and eight assists in the Premier League so far.

Speaking to Yahoo Sports, the Argentine has claimed the 27-year-old is a player he loves to watch.

He said: “Last season, a lot of Spurs players were not very good, because of the style of play. But it’s a different scenario now with Ange. Maddison is my type of player. He’s good with the ball, and very creative.”

What James Maddison has said about joining Tottenham

Although his injury issue was a long-term problem which kept him out for a considerable amount of time, it is apparent Maddison is loving life at Tottenham.

The midfielder made the £40m switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the summer after Leicester City were relegated.

Maddison has quickly become a fan favourite for the performances he has been putting in on the pitch.

And it seems he is pleased with the decision he made to choose Spurs in the summer after having other options on the table.

He said: “I absolutely love it here. I feel like the club was made for me, I have always been a fan of some of the players who have played in my position in Spurs teams in the past.

“When I was looking at my options in the summer I just saw there might have been a little gap for me to come and slot into this side and this club and everyone has taken to me brilliantly – so thank you for that.”

The injury he picked up earlier in the season was certainly an issue and it has provided him with a real challenge to overcome in his recovery.

It could potentially be claimed that he is only just returning to his best after two months back on the pitch.

Although Tim Sherwood was left slightly concerned after what he saw in the game on Saturday against Luton Town.

Although he has nailed down that spot in the starting XI, his injury history does suggest Spurs may need to bring in some competition over the summer with European football in mind.

Spurs have been linked with the likes of Teun Koopmeiners with the player already expressing his desire to leave Atalanta in the coming months.
