Three ex-Rangers stars could be about to hand Celtic monumental title blow

It might be a few years since Livingston stars Andrew Shinnie, Jason Holt, or even Stephen Kelly pulled on a Rangers jersey.

But the trio could yet have an almighty say in silverware coming to Ibrox as Old Firm rivals Celtic travel to the Tony Macaroni in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Rangers have heaped the pressure of their title rivals with an impressive 3-1 victory over Hibs at Ibrox which has put Philippe Clement’s treble-chasing Bears back top of the pile, even if it’s only for a few hours.

It’s still all to play for the in the title hunt – and in the relegation battle – and Livingston’s ex-Rangers stars are preparing for a potentially pivotal afternoon in this season’s Premiership story.

Easter Sunday Scottish Premiership special

With Celtic heading to Ibrox next week in the Old Firm derby, the Parkhead side face the very real threat of falling up to five points behind in the title race.

After today, Rangers will still have a game in hand on their rivals away to Dundee at Dens Park, which is set to be played on Wednesday 10th April.

With another Old Firm to come at Parkhead this season, Celtic cannot afford to slip up against Livingston and all eyes will be on Almondvale this Easter Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers – who will make the Rangers game – is serving a one match suspension in the stands this afternoon, on a tricky plastic surface, against a relegation-threatened Livingston.

Currently 10 points adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership with 24 to play for, an unexpected result this afternoon could kickstart a late Lions push for survival.

Conversely, it would heap the pressure on Celtic heading into next weekend.

Three ex-Rangers stars set for Livingston v Celtic

Livingston too have three ex-Rangers star in their ranks who will be hoping firstly to keep their team’s head above water but also to land a blow on Celtic.

Midfield pair Jason Holt and Stephen Kelly are mainstays in Livingston’s side this season, making 38 and 29 appearances this campaign respectively.

Having started the last match – a 3-0 defeat against Hibs – we suspect both will be involved v Celtic but the same cannot be said for Andrew Shinnie.

The attacking midfielder has played 37 times for the club this season but wasn’t involved in that pre-international break humbling at Easter Road.

Jason Holt joined Livingston in 2020 after leaving Rangers, with Stephen Kelly joining the Lions from the Ibrox side in the summer of 2022.

Andrew Shinnie came through the academy at Rangers but left the club in 2011 after making only two league appearances.

Having spent his career playing in Scotland and in the lower leagues of England, the midfielder joined Livi in 2021 and netting a winner against the Parkhead side for the club back in September 2021.
