How much prize money did Man City earn from 2022/23 Treble triumph?

Breaking down Manchester City’s prize money earned after winning a historic Treble during the 2022/23 season.

Rodri’s memorable 68th-minute strike for Man City in the 2023 Champions League Final against Inter Milan was enough to seal one of the greatest ever achievements in English football history.

The Citizens became just the second team from England to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in one campaign after Manchester United in 1998/99.

It was an astonishing feat that may not be replicated for some time – unless City go and do it back-to-back which isn’t as far fetched as people may think.

Astonishing feats usually lead to astonishing prizes and it’s safe to say Man City cashed in on their Treble glory at the end of the 2022/23 season.

It has been calculated via multiple sources listed below that Man City earned a total of almost £292m in prize money across the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. This takes into account positional prize money and broadcasting revenue.

But how was the money divvied up by each competition? Manchester City News delves into the stats and figures to reveal all.

Manchester City sealed the 2022/23 Premier League title on May 21 after Arsenal lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. It was their third successive English top-flight crown.

City accrued 89 points across the season which was five more than second-placed Arsenal. According to The Athletic, Man City’s exploits in the Premier League earned them a record-breaking £176.2m in prize money.

It was noted that City earned £153m in prize money the previous season after securing the 2021/22 Premier League title, meaning an increase of over £23m for the 2022/23 campaign.

The Telegraph’s James Ducker reported the same £176.2m figure in February 2024, as shown above.

City were looking to right the wrongs of the 2021 Champions League Final when they came up against Inter Milan in the 2023 edition in Istanbul.

Chelsea were the victors in the final two years previously as Kai Havertz’s solitary goal in Lisbon drove City fans all over the world to tears.

Thankfully, City just about got over the line with a famous 1-0 victory over the Italians that will be forever etched into the folklore of the Manchester giants.

According to the highly-renowned Swiss Ramble, Pep Guardiola and his first-team squad helped earn the club £111.8m in total prize money from UEFA for their Champions League triumph.

City reportedly raked in £56.9m in positional prize money, £24.2m via their UEFA coefficient ranking and £17.5m from the TV market pool.

Man City FA Cup prize money

To put it frankly, prize money earned for winning the FA Cup is absolutely nothing compared to the financial glory clubs bask in after winning the Premier League or Champions League.

The same can be said for Man City after they beat arch-rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the 2023 FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan scored after just 12 seconds to open the scoring – it was the fastest ever goal scored in FA Cup Final history.

Bruno Fernandes would equalise from the penalty spot for United but City had the last laugh as Gundogan scored his second of the clash in the second-half.

As a result, according to The Sun, City took home a reported £3.9m in prize money.
