Nuno Espirito Santo delivers interesting verdict on Giovanni Reyna after Nottingham Forest draw

Giovanni Reyna has found game time hard to come by at Nottingham Forest. After playing for over half an hour yesterday, Nuno Espirito Santo has delivered his verdict on the American playmaker.

Reyna was a pretty stellar loan signing when he joined Forest in January. Before heading to the East Midlands he penned a new contract with Dortmund where he has come through the ranks.

The player had played for just 39 minutes for Forest since arriving in January before yesterday. However, Reyna was raved about for his performance for the United States in midweek and Espirito Santo gave him a good run out yesterday.

Reyna was introduced as the second Forest substitute with Forest still looking for a way to restore parity. Within minutes of his introduction, the Reds were level with the 21-year-old playing a part in the equaliser scored by Chris Wood.

Reyna is only on loan until the end of the 2023/24 campaign and there is no option for Forest to sign the player permanently. After the game, Espirito Santo was quizzed on the attacking midfielder and his impact.

What Nuno Espirito Santo though of Gio Reyna’s Forest performance

Well, a report this week claimed that Forest are still a big fan of Reyna. This is despite the fact that he’s hardly played since January and has been really struggling to get in the team.

However, he was pretty impressive during his half-hour cameo yesterday. He linked up nicely with Morgan Gibbs-White for the Forest goal and hopefully, there is more to come from the player.

Espirito Santo was impressed and told Nottinghamshire Live: “He had an impact on the game. This is what we expected. He was able to control the possession. It was a good combination with Morgan before the goal.

“Today it was Gio. Tuesday is going to be another one. This is what we expect from all of our players – if you play one minute, help us and have an impact on the game.”

Forest should start youngster vs Fulham

It’s completely pointless to take players on loan and not play them regularly and that’s what Forest have done with Reyna. It just feels wrong and given the current form, Espirito Santo has nothing to lose.

Reyna completed 100% of his 22 passes, according toWho Scored and also had a ferocious shot on target saved by Dean Henderson between the posts for Crystal Palace.

It’s now time for Espirito Santo to give Reyna the game time that he craves at Forest. He’s only going to be at the club for another eight games and not giving him more opportunities is a bit ridiculous.

Reyna is one of the brightest young talents in European football. Despite his tender years, he’s made 121 appearances for Dortmund and the fact Forest aren’t playing him seems a little bit silly.
