'So poor': Roy Keane says 23-year-old Man City star is actually 'almost like a League Two player'

Roy Keane has claimed that Manchester City have a player who looks like he belongs in League Two.

It is safe to say that such a statement is a bold one, considering City have some of the best players in the business who would get into most teams in the world and at the very least, are more than at the level to play in the Premier League.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and John Stones are just some of their superstars who would be the envy of most teams and managers in Europe.

Roy Keane says Erling Haaland is “almost like a League Two player” after Manchester City drew to Arsenal

Even their youngsters like Rico Lewis, who looked sharp against the Gunners and Oscar Bobb have the quality to play for various teams in the English top-flight.

Previously, Graeme Souness claimed that City loanee Kalvin Phillips may not even be good enough to play in the Premier League as he continues to endure a torrid time at West Ham United.

But after Manchester City and Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw, Roy Keane compared Erling Haaland to a League Two player.

“The levels of his general play is so poor and not just today. I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be. In terms of in front of goal, he’s the best in the world”, he said on Sky Sports.

Keane continued, “But for his general play for such a player, it is so poor. Not just today, he has to improve that, he’s almost like a League Two player. That’s the way I look at him. His general play has to improve and it will do over the next few years.”

“There’s been this brilliant striker, fantastic but he has to improve his all-round game, has to.”

That is far too harsh on Erling Haaland

Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland was far from his devastating best against Arsenal but in our view, Roy Keane is being far too harsh on him.

Haaland’s technical level has taken a leap this season and while it still needs plenty of improvement, to compare his all-round game to that of a League Two player is a stretch, to say the least.

As Roy Keane pointed out himself, the Norwegian striker will likely improve his overall game in years to come.

With that in mind and considering how Haaland has showcased that he is more than just a goalscorer in several games at City, for Keane to make such a claim is very over the top.
