Manchester United fans name man of the match v Brentford, there was a clear winner

A poor performance from Manchester United on Saturday night was a blight on the Easter weekend for many supporters.

If you wanted to have a happy evening on Saturday, then Manchester United were not the answer. The Red Devils could only raise a smile for supporters for three minutes, when the team took the lead in the 96th, before relinquishing it in the 99th.

The1-1 draw against Brentford was a dismal performance where United rode their luck for 90 minutes before a frenetic ending saw the shares spoiled.

Our player ratings highlighted what a poor all round display it was from Erik ten Hag’s men, and better will be required against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manchester United man of the match v Brentford

There was a man of the match poll run via Manchester United’s official app, and there was a very convincing winner.

Even though this felt like the kind of game where nobody should emerge with credit, fans were asked to vote for the game’s top performer.

Andre Onana was the runaway winner, with supporters appreciating his efforts in almost keeping a clean sheet, with Erik ten Hag also labelling him ‘fantastic’.

Here is a look at how the voting broke down…

  • Andre Onana: 41 per cent
  • Mason Mount: 25 per cent
  • Kobbie Mainoo: 9 per cent
  • Bruno Fernandes: 5 per cent
  • All other players three per cent or fewer

Andre Onana v Brentford

Andre Onana is in contention for the Premier Leaguegolden glove race. He has eight clean sheets so far, and was agonisingly close to a ninth.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya leads the race with 10 so far. Onana is in joint second with eight.

Considering the challenges Onana has had to contend with this season, intense criticism and a team in front of him which leaks a staggering amount of shots, he has coped well and is showing signs of improvement after a shaky start.

After the draw with Brentford, former United defender Gary Pallister praised Onana for silencing his critics. But one mistake, and they will be back. He can’t afford to get complacent.
