'Really impressive': Ian Wright thinks what Martin Odegaard said after Arsenal draw was so 'refreshing'

Ian Wright has shared what he found refreshing about what Martin Odegaard said in a post-match interview after Arsenal drew with Manchester City on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta‘s side played out a stalemate at the Etihad Stadium, missing the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table following Liverpool’s win over Brighton earlier in the day.

William Saliba was exceptional at the back up against Erling Haaland. Meanwhile, the work-rate of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus was lauded, as the pair helped the Gunners’ full-backs limit the impact of Manchester City’s wide players.

Arsenal themselves, had some promising openings. But both sides were poor in those crucial moments in front of goal.

Of course, it seemed to be a bigger statement from Arsenal following their heavy defeat at the same ground last season which came as the title was slipping from their grasp.

But it seems that some of the players were not so willing to look at the potential bright side. Speaking on Wrighty’s House, Ian Wright noted that what Martin Odegaard said after the game stuck with him as Arsenal look to go one step further this season.

“It was really, really impressive when you look at where we were last year. I can’t look at anything, but be very, very happy with that result. The one point was massive,” he said.

“We had an interview with Martin Odegaard afterwards. And the thing that was refreshing was he was quite upset that we didn’t do more against them. He kept saying, ‘I’ve got mixed feelings’, because that’s where they are mentally now. They’re going to places like City and they believe that they can beat them, and that is encouraging.”

Gunners definitely heading in the right direction at a rapid rate

This definitely appears to be a different Arsenal side to last year. Few of those within the ranks had even challenged for a Premier League title before last season. And the Gunners had not even made the top four one year earlier. So it was a remarkable rise.

But they are no longer happy to simply take part. This is an Arsenal side with a brilliant blend of winners and stars yet to even reach their peak.

It may not be this season, but that wait for a title at the Emirates is surely not going to go on too much longer.
