Arsenal fans have now given their verdict on the performance that Ben White produced against Manchester City on Sunday evening.
The entire Arsenal rearguard produced an exceptional performance at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal were able to earn their first Premier League point on the road against Manchester City since 2016 thanks to the discipline of their defensive efforts.
Whilst the hosts enjoyed the vast majority of possession, and much of the match was played in Arsenal territory, Manchester City could only muster one shot on target in the game. Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba won their battle with Erling Haaland, whilst Declan Rice and Jorginho were able to effectively screen the back four from their position in the middle of the park.
Ben White shines v Manchester City
Ben White was also able to impress. With Bukayo Saka struggling ahead of him, partially due to a lack of fitness, the right-back had to compensate for the England winger’s sub-par performance to some extent.
Not only did the 26-year-old defend well, but White was also hailed for his willingness to drag Arsenal up the pitch with his attacking play. Particularly in the first half, the former Brighton and Hove Albion man offered the Gunners their only real outlet.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted with the shift that the full-back put in against the reigning champions, particularly after the scrutiny he has been under.
White has been in the headlines in recent weeks for his decision to snub playing for England. His decision was met with outrage from certain quarters. White was heavily criticised by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp for his decision to opt out of international duty.
The media glare has clearly not impacted upon White’s form or focus, though, as he was excellent against Manchester City.

Many Arsenal fans were impressed by what they saw from the right-back against the reigning champions. Taking to X after the final whistle, one supporter said, “Ben once again was fantastic. My RB.”
Another supporter stated, “It’s always Ben White stepping up when the defence is shakey.” Another fan observed, “Ben white evidently the only player not feeling the pressure.”
One fan claimed, “He is just so composed.” One other chipped in with, “He doesn’t feel the pressure. Hope our other players followed example.”
