Israel forces leave Shifa; strike on Aqsa Hospital kills 4

Israeli forces have withdrawn from the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, the biggest hospital in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military and Palestinian eyewitnesses said on Monday.

Hundreds of people returned to Al-Shifa and the surrounding area after the withdrawal early Monday, where they found scenes of utter devastation and dozens of found bodies inside and outside of the facility.

Israel had been carrying out a deadly two-week raid at the medical facility, located in Gaza City. The Gaza government's media office has said that 400 people have been killed in 13 days.

Mohammed Mahdi, who was among those who returned, described a scene of "total destruction" and said several buildings had been burned down. He counted six bodies in the area, including two in the hospital courtyard.

World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said an Israeli airstrike Sunday on Gaza's Al-Aqsa Hospital killed four people and wounded 17.

The strike was witnessed by a WHO team sent there to assess needs and to collect incubators for the north of Gaza, Tedros said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. He gave no details of the victims, but added: "WHO staff are all accounted for."
