Ten Hag should field never-before-seen front three vs Chelsea, just 22 starts between them this season - opinion

No time to waste for Manchester United, their next Premier League game is just around the corner.

After a seriously disappointing 1-1 draw against Brentford, Erik ten Hag‘s next task is to face Chelsea. There’s a fair bit the Dutch manager will have to think about heading into this one.

In particular, the front three is set to be questioned. After 90 minutes without as much as a sniff against the Bees, it could be time for a reshuffle in attack.

We think Ten Hag should go bold – fielding a front three that has only started 22 games in the Premier League between them this season.

Erik ten Hag should play all-new from three vs Chelsea

After an abysmal attacking showing against Brentford, it’s time to try an all-new attack against Mauricio Pochettino’s side – particularly with the game on Sunday against Liverpool looming.

Left-Winger – Mason Mount

  • Goals: 1
  • Assists: 0

Marcus Rashford just isn’t doing the business at the moment, and with Mason Mount‘s first goal coming on the weekend from this position, it could be time to reward him with a start out left.

Mount has a serious point to prove to both Manchester United and Chelsea fans and we believe he did enough in his Brentford cameo to justify a starting XI spot against the Blues.

Mount was one of United’s only bright sparks going forward and offered a lot more than Rashford did. Mount was bought as a midfielder, but could he make the left-wing slot his own? There’s surely not much harm in trying.

Striker – Rasmus Hojlund

  • Premier League starts: 18
  • Goals: 7
  • Assists: 2

A usual suspect, you can’t have anyone else up top other than Rasmus Hojlund. He is the only competent out-and-out striker Manchester United have, and therefore still one of the first names on the team sheet.

As we now know, Hojlund is a player who needs a little bit of time to get going, and after coming back from a long-term injury he’s still in a bit of a rusty phase.

More minutes, and hopefully a goal, should look to get him out of that.

Right-Winger – Amad Diallo

  • Premier League starts: 0
  • Goals: 0
  • Assists: 0

Amad Diallo, the man of the moment against Liverpool should be rewarded against Chelsea, for multiple reasons.

Alejandro Garnacho looks absolutely knackered. Whilst he is one of our best players, he’s also still 19 years old. The dazzling Argentine needs a break, and Chelsea isn’t a bad game to do that in considering it’s Liverpool the following Sunday. He probably should have even started against Brentford.

Diallo’s work ethic was simply unmatched when he came on in the FA Cup and it would be good to see him rewarded for his hard work with a spot on that right-hand side.
