‘Interesting’… Pundit left absolutely stunned after what Tottenham fans did in the win over Luton

Tottenham Hotspur were able to get the job done against Luton Town on Saturday, but pundit Robbie Earle did notice something odd during the game.

It is starting to become a bit of an unwanted habit for Spurs in struggling to find the back of the net inside the first half.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have now just scored one first half goal in their last nine games.

However, it seems the Australian manager may not have been the only one inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium who was left frustrated at half time.

What the Tottenham fans did at half time

Heung-min Son came to the rescue once again for the Lilywhites in scoring a late goal which sealed all three points.

It has already been revealed Postecoglou was left frustrated with the performance of Dejan Kulusevski in the opening 45 minutes.

Spurs squandered a number of golden opportunities inside the first half with Son and Timo Werner both culpable of wasting big chances.

The hosts ended the half having had 73% of the possession, 25 touches in the Luton box and an expected goals rating of 1.21.

And speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast, Earle has suggested Spurs fans were left so underwhelmed by their side’s performance that they booed the players off the pitch.

He said: “But I’ll tell you what was quite interesting. They got booed off at half-time when they were 1-0 down. Which I thought was a bit of a [strange one]. It was a strong boo like, ‘ooo we’re not happy with this’.

“Which I thought was a little harsh on the team and harsh on Ange because we know what he’s like. But yeah, 1-0 down against Luton… got the job doing and everything was rosy and Son gets a winner and they deserved to win.”

What Ange Postecoglou said about another goalless first half

The victory on the weekend was Tottenham’s third consecutive home win where they have found themselves falling behind.

Perhaps for Spurs it was a positive the Luton goal came as early as it did as Tottenham then had the remainder of the game to put things right.

However, there has to be some concern over their inability to keep a clean sheet.

And conceding is one thing, but allowing sides to take the lead is something which almost seems unsustainable for Spurs over the long term.

Although Postecoglou was left disappointed with the goal which was conceded, it seems he does not think it is much of an issue in general.

He said: “I don’t know, no, not really. The disappointing thing about the first half is the goal we conceded. Our football was good. We created good chances, one-vs-ones, we hit the post, they blocked quite a few shots and they defended desperately.

“I think overall there was nothing wrong with our football. The goal we conceded, yeah that was poor and that’s something we need to address.”

Spurs more than created enough big chances to win the game comfortably, however, with Arsenal and Manchester City all playing in north London soon, surely Spurs have to solve their defensive issues.

Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles has already compared Postecoglou to Pep Guardiola, but Spurs may need to take some inspiration from City’s recent clean sheet against the Gunners.
