College student from N.J. dies on Pa. campus

A New Jersey man died on his college campus in Pennsylvania on Saturday, university officials said in a statement.

The death of Christian Samay, a senior at Bucknell University, a private liberal arts university in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, was not related to Friday’s active shooter alert and lockdown, said university president John C. Bravman.

“This is an unspeakable loss for the Bucknell community, and our hearts go out Christian’s family and friends,” he said.

Samay’s death was not suspicious, he said. “We appreciate your support and respect for the privacy of all involved,” he said.

A university spokesman referred to Bravman’s statement from Saturday.

The school’s statement did not disclose Samay’s hometown, but the Asbury Park Press reported Samay lived in Mountain Lakes in Morris County.

A LinkedIn profile that appears to be Samay’s also lists Mountain Lakes as his hometown.

University officials did not disclose how Samay died.

The Asbury Park Press reported the university’s public safety department responded to an address where the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity is located around 1:45 p.m. Saturday and found Samay dead.

The university’s active shooter alert Friday was a hoax from someone in Virginia, the report said.

In his statement, Bravman said counseling and other resources were available to students.

“I call upon all Bucknellians to support each other in this difficult time, and to keep Christian’s family in your prayers,” he said.
