'Take a bow': Neil Redfearn amazed by 'brilliant' 21-year-old Leeds player in first-half vs Hull

Neil Redfearn was telling one Leeds United player to take a bow during the first-half of the Whites’ clash with Hull City on Monday.

Daniel Farke’s men were dealt a massive blow ahead of their game on Easter Monday. Ipswich Town moved themselves back to the top of the table with a 97th minute winner against Southampton.

Leeds’ task was to put their lacklustre performance at Watford behind them and keep the pressure on the top two in the process. And they got off to a very good start.

It was Sam Byram who broke the deadlock for Leeds, heading home from close range after Crysencio Summerville saw his attempt blocked.

He may not have provided the assist, but once again, Georginio Rutter played a massive role in the build-up to the opening goal.

The Frenchman did superbly to dance past a number of Hull players midway inside the visitors’ half. And that created the opportunity for Summerville to drive forward and get his strike away.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Neil Redfearn suggested that Georginio deserved a lot of the credit following the goal.

“Take a bow Georginio Rutter, wriggled his way out of two or three challenges and found Summerville and it’s a good finish from Byram. He gets above it, heads it down and gives the keeper no chance,” he said.

“Brilliant feet by Rutter. He’s the architect of this goal.”

Back to his best

It seemed important that Georginio made an impact against Hull. Rutter has been outstanding throughout the season, contributing so many assists for the Whites.

However, he had one of his poorer games against Watford – understandably, after he underwent surgery ahead of the international break.

Georginio was extremely quiet at Vicarage Road. And Leeds improved in the latter stages when he had been replaced.

He looked to be back to his best at times on Monday night. Not only did he impress for the goal, but he also made a real impact at the other end of the pitch, making a couple of important challenges.

That will hopefully bode very well for what remains of the season.
