'Fantastic': Sky pundit says he absolutely loves the way 26-year-old Leeds player never hides

Jobi McAnuff has said that he absolutely loves the way one Leeds United player never seems to hide after a moment of ‘fantastic’ quality against Hull City on Monday.

Leeds just about got across the line at Elland Road in a massive game, with the pressure ramping up after Ipswich Town beat Southampton just beforehand.

As stoppage-time loomed, it appeared that Daniel Farke’s side would have to settle for a point. But thankfully, Crysencio Summerville was able to score from the penalty spot after wrestling the ball off of Joel Piroe.

And the three points were confirmed when Daniel James scored an outrageous goal from just inside the Hull half. The visitors’ goalkeeper had been up for a corner so the Welshman had an empty goal to aim for. However, it was still a moment of magic to take advantage of the opportunity.

Of course, James was the one to miss the decisive penalty which saw Wales miss out on the chance to qualify for Euro 2024 during the international break.

And with that, Jobi McAnuff told Sky Sports (broadcast on 1/4; 22:21) that he is such a big fan of the way James keeps contributing to Leeds’ cause.

“That’s fantastic, because one thing I love about Dan James, even at the start of the season, things weren’t quite clicking, but he never hides,” he said.

“Again, that massive disappointment, just missed a penalty, the team aren’t now going to the Euros. But every single week he steps up, and he wants to contribute to the team. And really pleased to see him stick that away after what’s happened to him recently.”

A revelation this season

It has taken James time to prove himself at Leeds. It is easy to forget now, but he spent last season out on loan with Fulham after being given the green light to leave by Jesse Marsch.

But his goal against Hull took him up to 20 goal contributions for the season. He has scored 13 times and contributed seven assists.

Only Summerville and Georginio Rutter have been directly involved in more goals. That is a remarkable achievement.

And it was fantastic to see James be the one to make the points safe against Hull tonight.
