Manager unsure as Man Utd reportedly agree terms to appoint Ineos target, Liverpool rumour cleared up

Manchester United are making moves under Ineos and it looks like one key part of the project is heading for Old Trafford in the near future.

We knew that Ineos would be leaving no stone unturned in their quest to get United back on track.

Much of the focus has been placed on Erik ten Hag’s future or looking at who United can bring in during the summer transfer window.

Those decisions will come down the line but Ineos aren’t hanging around and are looking for major additions right now.

Manchester City’s Omar Berrada has already been secured as United’s new CEO whilst Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth is wanted as a sporting director.

United have found negotiations with Newcastle a little tricky and it looks like there is still some haggling to do over Ashworth’s future.

A key part of the puzzle could be arriving at Manchester United though with Southampton’s Jason Wilcox wanted at Old Trafford.

Russell Martin on Jason Wilcox to Manchester United

Reports on Monday suggested that Wilcox – who currently serves as Southampton’s director of football – has handed in his resignation.

It was reported that United made an offer to Southampton for Wilcox but the Saints refused to accept, leaving Wilcox to try and force a move.

United are understood to want Wilcox as the club’s new technical director just a year since he swapped Manchester City for Southampton.

Saints boss Russell Martin watched his side lose against promotion rivals Ipswich Town on Monday evening, conceding a last-minute goal to lose the game 3-2.

Martin probably wasn’t really in the mood for questions about Wilcox’s future but they were unsurprisingly fired his way after United’s move.

Martin told reporter Simon Peach that Southampton haven’t actually communicated anything to him about Wilcox’s situation just yet, leaving him unsure about the situation.

Wilcox did though send Martin a message after that 3-2 defeat to Ipswich, telling him of how proud he was of the performance despite the swirling speculation.

“I’ve not spoken to the club,” said Martin. “You know my feelings on Jason and I’ll have a chat with him after. I’ve just had a text saying how proud he was of the performance. The rest is once I’m told I’ll let you know,” he added.

Wilcox to Liverpool played down

One interesting note is that The London Evening Standard claim that Liverpool are also interested in Wilcox.

They suggest that United remain hopeful of landing Wilcox despite the opportunity of him heading to Anfield to work under Michael Edwards.

That seemed to come out of nowhere and has since been ruled out.

The Liverpool ECHO’s Ian Doyle claims that Liverpool have absolutely ‘zero interest’ in Wilcox.

Fabrizio Romano adds that United are the ‘only club’ for Wilcox and he has already agreed terms to join the Ineos revolution.

Liverpool seemingly aren’t a danger here and with Wilcox pushing for the move to Old Trafford, it looks like the former England international will take on a big role at United very soon.
