'Looks like a superstar': Jamie Carragher names the Man United player he'd sign for Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has suggested the one Manchester United player he would pick if he could take anyone from Erik ten Hag’s squad for Liverpool.

It has been an underwhelming season for Manchester United. There appeared to be some promising signs in Erik ten Hag‘s first year at Old Trafford. But United now find themselves 11 points off the top-four heading into the final stages of this campaign.

There have been a few positives to emerge from this campaign. Alejandro Garnacho has impressed on and off the pitch while some of his senior teammates have floundered. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund has silenced a lot of his doubters as the campaign has gone on.

But surely, there is one revelation who stands out above any other.

Kobbie Mainoo went into this season having only made three first-team appearances for United. But he has now established himself as a key man in ten Hag’s side. And there is a real chance of Mainoo going to Euro 2024 with England.

So it should probably come as no great surprise that the 18-year-old was the player Jamie Carragher picked out when asked on The Overlap which Manchester United star he would take for Liverpool.

“I think I would probably take the young kid, Mainoo,” he said.

“Mainoo, his age, number one. I think he looks like a superstar. He could go on to be a real superstar. I’m trying to think of who else in the United team is better than a Liverpool player in their position really.”

No other choice

Carragher is not spoiled for choice in the same way Gary Neville was when asked to pick a Liverpool player. Many Liverpool fans would surely take Mainoo over anyone else.

Wataru Endo has surprised a lot of people this season. But it is frightening to think of the level Mainoo could potentially reach in the years to come.

He is certainly the kind of player Manchester United need to build their team around moving forward, because everyone is quickly learning what a special talent he appears to be.
