Nottingham Forest now think 'extraordinary' star is worth more than Brennan Johnson - journalist

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White is attracting interest this summer and the Reds may face a fight to keep hold of their star man. Now, it’s emerged how much clubs might have to pay to prise the player away from the City Ground.

Gibbs-White signed for Forest in the summer of 2022 and was immediately given the number 10 shirt. Many top players have worn that number in the past, including Stan Collymore, Teddy Sheringham, Bryan Roy and Garry Birtles.

The Forest star has been a real fan favourite since he checked in at the club for an initial £25 million from Wolves. In total, he’s scored nine times and claimed 14 assists from 72 appearances for the Reds.

Given that he’s only 24-years-old, it’s natural that clubs will be looking at him ahead of the summer. With Forest uncertain of their Premier League status right now, several Premier League outfits are watching Gibbs-White.

Journalist shares how much Morgan Gibbs-White might cost clubs

Forest have been deducted four points for breaching financial fair play regulations. Since that news came out, a number of players have been touted with moves away from the club, with no fewer than four clubs eyeing Murillo.

Gibbs-White is another player who has been the subject of links away from Forest. West Ham and Tottenham are thought to be keen on signing the player – but it now appears that they will have to dig deep in order to sign him.

Pete O’Rourke is a man with his finger so often on the pulse when it comes to transfers. He’s now explained how much it could take to prise Gibbs-White away from Forest in the summer.

He said on The Inside Track podcast: “It won’t just be Tottenham who will be interested in Morgan Gibbs-White if he is on the market this summer – Newcastle will also be interested.

“It will be a similar sort of price tag to the £50 million paid for Brennan Johnson and possibly slightly more as well.”

Forest must try and keep Gibbs-White

It’s no surprise to hear that Gibbs-White is going to be a wanted man.Garth Crooks has called the player ‘extraordinary’ previously and is certainly a very talented boy.

It goes without saying but if Forest do lose their place in the Premier League this season, keeping Gibbs-White will be nigh on impossible. The top-flight would beckon for the attacking midfielder and it’d be up to Forest to get the best price.

If Forest do remain in the Premier League then they quite simply have to try and keep Gibbs-White. He’s the creative spark in the current squad and replacing him would likely cost an absolute fortune for the Reds.

Last summer, Gibbs-White helped England under-21s win the European Championship. He’s likely going to play for the senior England team at some point and he will want to be playing Premier League football to achieve that.

As long as Forest are in the Premier League their players will always be at the mercy of bigger clubs. However, there are other assets in the current squad and as a result, Forest must do whatever it takes to keep Gibbs-White if they remain in the top flight.
