Four World Central Kitchen (WCK) staffers — a Briton, a Pole, an Australian, and their Palestinian driver — met their demise in the Gaza Strip. According to the Hamas health ministry, this occurred as a result of an Israeli airstrike on their vehicle, citing BBC.
Sources revealed that the workers were clad in WCK-logoed bulletproof vests - the American non-governmental humanitarian organization, known for its provision of sustenance to disaster-stricken populations.
Local journalists took to the internet sharing images of passports purportedly belonging to the slain workers.
In a statement, WCK asserted that they had received reports of their team members being killed in an IDF air strike while supporting our humanitarian food delivery efforts in Gaza.
Recently, this charitable organization made headlines by delivering hundreds of tons of food to Gaza residents.
Commenting on the reports, the IDF said that they are conducting a thorough investigation at the highest levels to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
"The IDF makes extensive efforts to enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, and has been working closely with WCK in their vital efforts to provide food and humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza," added the Israeli army.
Australia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they are urgently seeking to confirm disturbing reports of an Australian among the deceased humanitarian workers.
"We have been very clear that we expect humanitarian workers in Gaza to have safe and unimpeded access to do their lifesaving work," said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
World Central Kitchen and Ukraine
It was reported in March 2022 that World Central Kitchen was ready to assist Ukrainian farmers and mobilize its own resources to replenish seed stocks, purchase fertilizers, and agrochemicals for the planting campaign.
