Fortuna Düsseldorf make the short trip to Bayer Leverkusen hoping to end their season-long unbeaten run of 39 matches in all competitions in Wednesday's German Cup semi-final.

"Of course we go there with a certain respect but at the same time it is a huge chance," goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier told Tuesday's edition of Kicker sports magazine.

"They have to lose at some stage, why not against us? We definitely have a chance. When, if not in the cup with its own rules? You can see that with Saarbrücken, who have made it to the semi-finals again."

Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen are the only Bundesliga team left in the Cup, with Düsseldorf third in the second tier. The other semi, later on Tuesday, is between third tier Saarbrücken and second division Kaiserslautern. Saarbrücken have ousted three Bundesliga sides, including mighty Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen are closing in on a maiden Bundesliga title 13 points clear at the top, and apart from the German Cup semis are also in the Europa League quarter-finals where they face West Ham United.

Düsseldorf reached the last four on penalties at second division leaders St Pauli Hamburg and are bidding to reach the Cup final for an eighth time.

They lifted the trophy in 1979 and 1980 as part of the longest winning run in the competition between 1978 and 1981 which stands at 18 games.

Kastenmeier said that his team "will give its all, most of us won't have the pleasure of playing in a cup semi-final very often."

Looking at Leverkusen, he added: "It's remarkable what they're putting on this season. They have an outstanding coach and are doing really well.

"But we're not a bad team either, we're currently very good defensively and always have dangerous transition moments," Kastenmeier said.
