Former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso had a very successful spell at Stamford Bridge.
During his time at Chelsea, Marcos Alonso managed to win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup to name some of the honours he picked up.
After making 212 appearances for the Blues, the left-back went on to join Barcelona, signing for them in 2022.
However, it looks like Alonso could be on the move again, with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming on X that the Spaniard will leave the Spotify Camp Nou at the end of the season.
Some Chelsea fans have been reacting to the news and would not mind seeing him return to west London.
Chelsea could very well be in the market for a new left-back in the summer. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is one name that has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Should Chelsea re-sign Marcos Alonso?
Alonso became a cult hero at Stamford Bridge for all of the big goals he scored and Chelsea could do with another left-back.
Ben Chilwell keeps getting injured and Marc Cucurella’s future in west London is in doubt.
It has been claimed that Chelsea have already offered the former Brighton & Hove Albion man to one club.
However, Alonso is probably not the answer for Mauricio Pochettino. He is now 33 so does not fit the Blues’ transfer strategy, while his best position is at left wing-back.
Chelsea play a back four these days, so they would not get the best out of Alonso.
If Chelsea do strengthen in the left-back position this summer, which looks likely because of Chilwell’s injury problems, someone like Robinson coming in seems way more likely. The USA international is 26 years of age and has performed well in the Premier League this season.
According to WhoScored, the Fulham star is currently making 2.4 interceptions per game, which is the highest average in his squad.
