Sean Dyche simply must start £30m Everton player vs Newcastle, it’ll be shocking if he doesn’t - opinion

Everton are back in Premier League action again tonight, as they travel to Newcastle United seeking to finally cut short their winless run.

A miserable streak that stretches back nearly four months now and over 100 days, Sean Dyche has remained stubborn in his team selection, insisting that the underlying figures suggest that a turnaround is imminent.

However, despite willing such a change, nothing seems forthcoming.

Having settled on his favourites and stuck with them all season, the former Burnley boss needs to lose his stubbornness and start picking those best suited to the job at hand.

Frankly, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not been ready for any task this season.

Beto simply has to start vs Newcastle United

Having scored their late equaliser last time out, and headed home the opening goal against West Ham United just a few weeks earlier, Beto is a man slowly finding his feet in English football.

Although he is wildly unorthodox and completely unpredictable, right now that is exactly what Everton needs.

Their profligacy and severe lack of creativity have blunted them for months now, and yet this aforementioned stubbornness from the manager has seen nothing ever change.

He is content with their performances despite results continuing to fall by the wayside.

Whilst hardly the biggest risk, one change he simply must make tonight is to ditch Calvert-Lewin, whose last goal in any competition came in October, and instead replace him with a striker who may not be as technically proficient but has been far more effective when deployed this season.

Everton need to be prolific to beat Newcastle United

Although it is a trait that they have sorely lacked all season, tonight they simply must showcase a newfound proficiency if they are to claim any kind of result at St James’ Park.

The home of the Magpies is a formidable place at the best of times, let alone under floodlights and against the Toffees.

After all, this newfound rivalry between these two sides only intensifies with each passing season, and after their 3-0 drubbing at Goodison Park, Newcastle United will be out for revenge.

However, their injury crisis only worsened at the weekend, and Dyche will be sending his side out against an outfit severely hampered.

That should breed confidence within the playing staff, and hopefully might inspire the likes of Beto to find his feet, and the back of the net, at last.

With two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, there are few who have offered anything near what he has in front of goal in recent months.

The Portuguese hitman, brought in for £30m over the summer, could provide that killer instinct tonight.
