Republicans in the House of Representatives are pushing to rename the Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump, the twice-impeached, quadruple-indicted former president who was defeated by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Fox News reports that Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) believes that renaming the major international airport located just outside the nation's capital after Trump is a good idea because "in my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump."

"As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil," the Pennsylvania Republican explained.

Reschenthaler's claims that Trump issued in a golden age for America are questionable given that his approval rating never once eclipsed 50 percent throughout the duration of his entire term, and given that he incited a deadly riot at the United States Capitol building after refusing to concede an election he lost by more than 7 million votes nationwide.

Additionally, Trump is particularly unpopular among Washington D.C. residents, as fewer than six percent of D.C. voters backed him in the 2020 election, compared to more than 92 percent of voters in the city who voted for President Joe Biden.

Nonetheless, Reschenthaler's motion garnered the support of several other House Republicans, including Reps. Michael Waltz (R-FL), Andy Ogles (R-TN), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Barry Moore (R-AL) and Troy Nehls (R-TX).

Republicans in 1998 named D.C.'s other major international airport after former President Ronald Reagan.
