'No chance': Ally McCoist says there's absolutely no way 24-year-old is joining Tottenham this summer

Ally McCoist has responded to reports that Tottenham Hotspur are now interested in signing a Premier League player valued at around £100 million.

Spurs look set to be one of the sides to watch during the summer transfer window. Of course, Ange Postecoglou’s men put many of their Premier League rivals to shame in January, bringing in both Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.

Tottenham have showed a lot of promise this season. And they could well be back in the Champions League next year. So they may perhaps be looking to push the boat right out in the market over the coming months.

It certainly seems that Tottenham have got some ambitious targets in mind.

Ally McCoist stunned by Tottenham transfer report

It was reported this week that Tottenham are one of the sides interested in signing Alexander Isak, with Arsenal also admirers of the Newcastle United star.

The Magpies may have to be prepared to sell one of their big names to free up some funds this summer. But Isak is valued at £100 million. So they are definitely not going to make it easy for one of their Premier League rivals to secure his signature.

Certainly, Ally McCoist is not expecting to see Isak lining up for Spurs next year. Speaking on talkSPORT (broadcast on 2/4; 6:27) with Jeff Stelling, McCoist claimed that he would be shocked if Isak moved to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It’s not the kind of signal that Newcastle want to be sending off is it, because they’re meant to be on the rise, meant to be bringing players in, meant to be building,” he said.

“So, I would be very surprised unless Isak fancied the move that it would happen.

“He might fancy the move because he’s, without doubt, going to have a better chance at this moment in time of winning things, particularly the league, but if he wants to hang around for the project and it is a project, he’d have to weigh all that up.”

“Yeah, Newcastle could just bump up his wages as well which they can do without being outside the Financial Fair Play rules,” Stelling replied.

“It did make me smile when Spurs were linked. With all due respect, he’s not going to leave Newcastle for Tottenham.”

“No chance! There’s two reasons you go, to win things or financial security, right? That’s the two reasons you go, he ain’t going to Spurs,” McCoist added.

Newcastle would need something special if they sold Alexander Isak to Spurs

It would definitely be a worrying statement from Newcastle if they were prepared to sell Isak to Tottenham. He has scored 14 goals in 21 Premier League games this season. So he is definitely one of the players who can elevate the Magpies back into the Champions League picture.

And if Newcastle sold him for £100 million, it would still be difficult to find an adequate replacement. Callum Wilson turned 32 in February and has missed much of the campaign due to injury.

It would be a huge moment if Tottenham did make a serious move. And it would be a signing which would capture the imagination of supporters after selling arguably their greatest ever player last summer.

But you would not be at all surprised if McCoist was not the only one, by any means, doubting that Tottenham have any chance of striking a deal for Isak.
