‘Special’ manager is aware that Liverpool want him, the Reds know his agent well

Liverpool reportedly know the agent of a ‘special’ manager really well, and they are looking to appoint him this summer.

Things are starting to accelerate in the managerial race for Liverpool. We already know Xabi Alonso will not be coming to the club.

He has decided he wants to continue his development as a manager at Bayer Leverkusen and carry on the work he has started. Which meansa return to Anfield won’t be happening this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s successor will have to be someone else. Who that candidate will be remains to be seen. But there are plenty who are still vying for the role.

Among them both Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann are two potential candidates, who seem like they could be a good fit. Another is Ruben Amorim, who seems to be the favourite for the job at the moment.

What has been said about Ruben Amorim?

Amorim is a manager with a brilliant track record. The 39-year-old delivered the first Portuguese league title in Sporting CP’s history in 19 years. And he is on course to repeat that feat this season.

Back in Portugal, according to the Liverpool ECHO, he has been labelled as the ‘Special One 2.0’, after working under Jose Mourinho. Although Amorim has shut down those claims.

Amorim is definitely known for his defensive style. According to Wyscout, his side has averaged the lowest xG against them in three of Amorim’s last four seasons in Portugal’s top flight.

But unlike Mourinho, Amorim’s style is more high-risk, high-reward based and closer aligned to Jurgen Klopp’s. Amorim plays with a high defensive line and likes to press his opponents high as well.

That is why he would be a good fit for Liverpool. Although the Reds are not the only ones interested in his services. Barcelona has also been linked with him recently [Independent].

According to journalist Santi Aouna, who works for Foot Mercato, Amorim is aware of Liverpool’s interest in his services and is one of the top candidates at the club.

Aouna has also claimed Amorim has a release clause of €20m for clubs from abroad. This roughly equates to around £17m.

Additionally, Aouna has also reported that Liverpool know Amorim’s agent well, who also represents Luis Diaz.

This could undoubtedly be a positive boost in Liverpool’s quest to win the race for Amorim’s services. He certainly seems like the best candidate for the job.
