"Govt is doing everything possible to help victims": Mamata Banerjee on Jalpaiguri storm

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) [India], April 2 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday promised support and assistance following the devastating storm that struck Jalpaiguri and said that the state government is doing everything possible to help the victims.

"5000 houses have been damaged. The number of houses partially and completely damaged has been assessed. The administration is giving relief kits to everyone...Farmers' crops have also been destroyed, the administration is looking into that as well," Mamata Banerjee told reporters.

The West Bengal Chief Minister said that those who are in relief camps or those who are not will get whatever facilities they should get.

"There is no problem, it will take some time to settle everything. Those who are in relief camps or those who are not will get whatever facilities they should get. The administration is paying attention to other things that have been damaged," she added.

Earlier on Monday, as the cyclone wreaked havoc in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri Mamata Banerjee met the victims of the cyclone at the Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital.

At least five people were killed and over 100 others were injured after a heavy storm wreaked havoc in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district.

Suvendu Adhikari also met the cyclone-affected people at the Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital in Jalpaiguri on Monday.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose promised support to the victims, stating that Bengal is ready for all possible help. (ANI)
