Willy Gnonto has just made a decision on his future Leeds United supporters should love - opinion

Willy Gnonto has very much made amends for the events of last summer with his performances for Leeds United lately.

Gnonto had been looking to force through an exit at Elland Road following relegation from the Premier League almost 12 months ago, going to a number of different efforts to do so.

The 20-year-old refused to play on three different occasions and also handed in a transfer request, but made the decision to apologise to the club and after a testing few months, has not looked back since.

Though injury has halted his momentum recently, after coming into the side in early February, Gnonto has score six goals in his last nine league starts, firmly making that wide right position his own.

There were also reports around that time Gnonto was close to signing a new deal at Leeds, and although that has not happened as of yet, terms have ‘virtually been agreed’.

As is often the case with transfer sagas like Gnonto’s last summer, a lot of it is often agent led. That was no different here, with Claudio Vigorelli often seen speaking to the Italian press looking to force through an exit.

When it doesn’t go their way, it is not the agent who has to face the brunt of the criticism, but the player. Vigorelli was able to hide away while Gnonto was on the receiving end of a lot of slack from both supporters and pundits.

However, upon the closure of the transfer window, reports began to emerge Gnonto was giving serious consideration to changing his agent, and it appears as though that is the case.

His (former) agent Vigorelli was recently speaking in an interview with gianlucadimarzio.com, where he expressed his sorrow at ‘Gnonto’s departure’, which is a decision Leeds fans should love.

He said: “With all this talent in hand, the future of Vigo Global Alliance Sport Services looks radiant: “We’ve made a look, we have to keep up with the evolution of our world. Sorry for Gnonto’s departure. There have been different points of view, but regardless we wish him the best.

“The path we have made him take fills us with pride. We are satisfied with the work we are doing, I speak in the plural because a great hand is being given to me by the new COO Giuseppe Pesce, the CFO Danilo Di Lello, the analyst Daniele Carboni and an experienced scout like Andrea Ritorni.

“Today it is really important to rely on professionals who support you in your daily work.”

When is Gnonto going to return from injury for Leeds

After a difficult first half of the season, Gnonto had finally found his position in the side but may now find it tough again when he does return, given how little is left of the season.

Daniel Farke shared an update on when Gnonto could return after Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Watford on Good Friday.

He said: “Gnonto at least three weeks with a hamstring issue. Perhaps earlier if he does well, but realistically it’s three weeks perhaps a few days more. More or less the same for Roberts. Gruev has a chance for Monday, but need to see the swelling. Willy and Connor out for Monday.”
