One Wolves player was really let down by some of his teammates in 1-1 draw with Burnley tonight - opinion

Wolves have played out a 1-1 draw with Burnley tonight in the Premier League, failing to bounce back from the weekend defeat to Aston Villa.

Gary O’Neil‘s side fell a bit short at Turf Moor, and struggled to create meaningful chances. When they did come, they failed to take them.

Burnley took the lead after a brilliant finish by Jacon Bruun Larsen on the volley from a deep cross.

But Wolves levelled just before half-time, with the brilliant Rayan Ait-Nouri heading in Pablo Sarabia‘s free-kick.

Ait-Nouri had a golden chance in the second-half when he went through on goal. But as was the case against Aston Villa on Saturday, his finishing let him down.

Wolves will perhaps be thankful with a point in the end, with Burnley forcing Jose Sa into several decent saves.

Tonight, O’Neil again went with teenager Leon Chiwome up top, with Matheus Cunha not quite fit enough to start the game.

Chiwome made his first start for the club against Aston Villa on Saturday and admittedly struggled.

But O’Neil clearly saw enough to give him another chance at Turf Moor.

Chiwome had another fairly tough night. But there can be no denying that, tonight, there were several occasions where some of his teammates overlooked him.

Like against his Villa he worked his socks off and chased lost causes. At one point in the first-half, he won a corner after Mario Lemina had punted a ball own the wing.

He was given a rough ride in the first-half, but he grew into the game in the second.

But despite his hard work and looking more comfortable as the game went on, some of the Wolves players seemed reluctant to pass to him.

With the chance that Ait-Nouri had to put Wolves 2-1 up in the second-half, the Algerian could undoubtedly have squared it to an unmarked Chiwome. Replays showed that he looked across to where he was.

There was another occasion when Wolves attacked down the right side. Chiwome played the ball to Sarabia and might have received the ball back down the line. But the Spaniard just went backwards.

He was one player who was particularly guilty of not passing to Chiwome as much as he could have tonight.

As per Sofascore, Chiwome had 22 touches of the ball tonight. That was the fewest of all the Wolves players who started the match, indicating that he just didn’t get the service.

Some will say that Chiwome lacks quality at the moment, and maybe didn’t show enough in the game to warrant getting more of the ball.

But he’s been selected for a reason. He clearly has some quality and he should have had more trust from some players around him tonight in certain moments.

He certainly doesn’t deserve criticism, because it’s an extremely tough gig coming into the first-team with such expectation.
