Dick Strawbridge reveals stern advice he received during New York leg of tour which saved the trip: ‘Don’t bother!’

Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree discussed a piece of advice they received when sightseeing in New York which ultimately saved them some time on the morning of their show.

Strawbridge and Adoree have spent the last couple of weeks touring around America with their two children, Arthur and Dorothy.

Their shows were attended by the “rowdiest ever crowd”, family reunions and taking in the history of some of the sights they managed to fit in during their busy schedule.

Despite facing some controversy about taking their children out of school, the tour was widely praised by attendees and the family itself.

Their trip came with some free time, with one day seeing the family take in the sights of the Empire State Building – which luckily came with some free advice.

Discussing the day on their podcast – Dick & Angel’s Chat…Eau – Adoree began: “It was the morning of the show, we hadn’t done the show yet and me being me, I kind of wanted to do as much as possible in New York.

“I thought it was a really good idea on the morning, that Monday before the show we should just pop along to the Empire State building.”

Strawbridge interjected and jibed: “I actually did say ‘Are you joking?’ because it is a pretty big building, and what it does do is take quite a lot of time to do it properly, it was really interesting.”

Adoree laughed and continued: “First of all, I thought it was going to be a lift up and a lovely view and then you have a photo opportunity, a little tick box and you have been to the Empire State Building.

“We were really really impressed actually about the level of detail and engineering and the references to films and it was really really well done.

“All the references within the building, I really appreciated that and loved it. It was a bit of a shock and wasn’t the five minute visit that we thought it was going to be.”

Noting that she had involved him on the decision agree, Strawbridge replied: “Who’s the we? You said we thought it was going to be, I never thought it was going to be but we spent hours there, it wasn’t a quick trip.”

Revealing the advice they were given, Adoree explained: “Something that is worth mentioning, it is two different prices, it is the 86 floor and 100 floor, and the tickets are double the price.

“We would never scrimp on that experience but there was seven of us and $40 or $80 a ticket and as we went in, the guy outside said to us don’t bother going to the top, it is the same view double the price’.

“And when we got to the 86 floor, we were grateful that we didn’t go all the way up because it was magical.”

“It saved us. Think Sleepless In Seattle but the 80 floor is inside, the 86 is outside but boy was it windy! Papi kept losing his hat!” Strawbridge joked.
