'A little bit': Guglielmo Vicario shares reason why Tottenham couldn't beat West Ham last night

Tottenham Hotspur were left frustrated and possibly, a bit lucky to secure a point against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Tuesday night – and Guglielmo Vicario delivered a strong verdict.

Spurs came into the game after securing a late win over Luton Town in North London on the weekend, and might have hoped to build on that win with a second successive victory away at David Moyes’ side.

Spurs took the lead, too. Timo Werner laying on an assist for Brennan Johnson to score, as the Wales star continues his excellent form of late. But, Kurt Zouma replied soon after to level the score line at 1-1.

Michail Antonio had the biggest chance to win the game, with the veteran striker going through on goal after fending off Micky van de Ven. But, his tame effort was stopped by Italy and Spurs stopper Vicario.

A chance that should have hit the back of the net, but actually proved to be very tame from the Jamaica star. So, a point apiece, which leaves Spurs in fifth and two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Speaking to BeIN Sports after the match, Vicario questioned the attitude and belief of his teammates and admits a good chance to nab all three had gone begging – as Spurs continue to push for a top-four spot.

“A fair result from what we showed. I think we had a lack of belief in winning for many reasons, maybe a little bit of tiredness. We have to believe we can win every game – and it was a good opportunity today.”

Tottenham still in good position to finish fourth and here is why

Harry Redknapp spoke on Tuesday ahead of the game against West Ham and said he believes that Spurs will finish in fourth place – simply because Spurs have a stronger squad. Unai Emery’s side are in Europe.

That is going to play a massive part. With The Midlands outfit still in the Conference League, Emery will have to juggle fighting for the trophy – but also looking to guide Villa into the Champions League.

Surely – with as Redknapp says – Spurs boasting a better squad and Villa in Europe, it is still within the hands of Tottenham to go on and finish in fourth place. They need to remove their inconsistency of late.
