‘I think’: Gary Neville highlights what Man City need to win to have a successful season

Gary Neville has assessed what would be a successful season for Manchester City.

After securing the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League at the end of their previous season, the Citizens are still in the race to regain their three titles this time around.

With just eight league game left to play after tonight’s home match against Aston Villa, the Blues are in the midst of a crucial stage of the season.

While City still have the chance of winning another Treble, one pundit and former top-flight player, who knows what it takes to win three major trophies in one season, has shared his thoughts on what would constitute a successful season for the Citizens.

Speaking in a recent fan debate edition of The Overlap, Neville had this to say when asked what he thinks a successful season would look like for City.

He said: “You always have to say if you don’t win the Premier League title, if you asked Pep Guardiola he would say that isn’t success because that’s where you’re measured, he would say that.

“You could win the Champions League and recover it but I think if you didn’t win the Premier League, that would still be a punch in the ribs.”

With the Premier League, the Citizens have the chance to make history by becoming the first team to win it for a fourth season in a row, in addition to doing it to stop Jurgen Klopp from winning it in his final season at Liverpool and Arsenal winning it for the first time in 20 years.

Then with the Champions League, the opportunity to win it for a second time in a row will undoubtedly be a mouth-watering prospect for everyone at the club, with another FA Cup in the middle being another illustrious target.

In our view, if the Blues were to lift either of the Premier League or Champions League trophies in the coming months, this would make it a successful campaign.
