The International Boxing Federation (IBA) has hit out at the world's highest sports court CAS and Olympic leaders after its appeal against a ban from the Olympic family was turned down.

In a statement on Wednesday, the IBA said it would decide on another appeal at the Swiss Federal Tribunal after its legal team has studied the full verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

It accused the CAS of bias and said it was "far from independent" of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and that it had used "oversimplified language" in its statement from the previous day to uphold the ban.

IOC president Thomas Bach was accused by IBA to be "driven by personal and purely political reasons" through which he "disrespected the Olympic Charter and discredited himself and the IOC as an organization naming the reason behind IBA’s recognition withdrawal."

In June 2023, the IOC withdrew the recognition of IBA as its international federation for boxing in connection with long standing governance and financing concerns.

The IBA appealed, and a CAS hearing took place in November.

A CAS statement on Tuesday said it upheld the IOC decision because IBA “had not complied with the conditions set down by the IOC for recognition.”

The IBA insisted it has conducted wide-ranging changes within its ranks and and its governance which have not been recognized. It said the IOC had §never provided any form of a coherent roadmap to the IBA nor established a direct communication channel."

Should the IBA decide to appeal at the Federal Tribunal it will face a difficult case because under Swiss law the tribunal will only act if procedural requirements are not fulfilled or the CAS ruling may breach national law.

Boxing remains part of the Paris Games but like 2021 in Tokyo qualifying and the Olympic tournament is run by the IOC.

A new governing body, World Boxing, was founded last year and is aiming for IOC recognition.
