Gaza: Pressure on West after Israel kills aid workers

Following an Israeli airstrike that killed seven aid workers in Gaza, Western governments are facing rising pressure to condemn Israel's latest military action that has hit humanitarian efforts in the besieged Palestinian territory.

The attack has since triggered multiple charities to suspend food deliveries to Palestinians on the brink of starvation.

World Central Kitchen (WCK), whose workers were killed in an Israeli strike on Monday, said early Tuesday it wasimmediately pausing operations in the region, delivering a blow to the recently opened sea route for food aid. Ships carrying food sailed away from Gaza after arriving just a day earlier.

The killings of the WCK workers additionally threatened to set back efforts to open a maritime corridor for aid from Cyprus to help ease the desperate conditions in northern Gaza.

Israel says the strikes were an accident and that officials are investigating. At least 180 humanitarian workers have been killed in the war by Israeli forces, according to UN figures.
