Crystal Palace have just been made to regret decision they took nine years ago

Crystal Palace will now be regretting a decision they made on a player nine years ago, as he contributed to Oliver Glasner’s second loss.

On Tuesday night, Crystal Palace‘s winless streak continued as Bournemouth made it just one win in five for Oliver Glasner.

Since his arrival, things haven’t gone great, although there is an acceptance that a lot is due to the injury crisis.

With several first-team stars already out, Chris Richards has joined the list which now leaves Palace with one fit centre-half – given James Tomkins isn’t favoured.

In the defeat Dean Henderson was impressive, but ultimately he couldn’t do anything to stop Justin Kluivert from scoring the winner, thanks to an Antoine Semenyo assist.

Now, one of these players has opened up on his rejection from Palace nine years ago, it’s something Palace will regret.

Antoine Semenyo opens up on his Crystal Palace rejection

After Bournemouth defeated Palace on Tuesday night, Semenyo was discussing how he was actually rejected by Palace at the age of 15, and the huge impact this had on him.

As quoted by Ed Aarons, Semenyo explained that the rejection almost ended his career, which makes it even more miraculous that he is where he is right now.

“I remember getting into the car crying and saying to my dad, why does this keep happening? I stopped playing football for a year after that. I didn’t play any sport, I put on a lot of weight. I didn’t think I’d be here.”

Semenyo will be delighted he never gave up and has turned into a really solid player in the Premier League, with seven league goals this season.

No doubt Palace is regretting this decision too, as he’d be a really strong addition to the squad and he has now played a big role in Palace’s latest defeat.

Where does Semenyo rank among Palace forwards?

Semenyo would be a really valuable player if Palace had him, he’d probably be a bonafide starter too as he’s a perfect fit.

Here’s how he ranks among other Palace forwards in the league this season.

  • Antoine Semenyo – 7 goals and 3 assists in 26 games
  • Jordan Ayew – 4 goals and 6 assists in 28 games
  • Michael Olise – 6 goals and 3 assists in 11 games
  • Eberechi Eze – 6 goals and 2 assists in 20 games

As seen here, he’d be Palace’s highest contributing wide forward.

Perhaps one day, the Eagles will be allowed to make a move for him and to make up for the earlier rejection.
