'Only he can': Nedum Onuoha says £51m Man City player did something last season no one else can

Nedum Onuoha has claimed that a certain Manchester City player produced a moment of magic last season that only he can in his generation.

Kevin De Bruyne is certainly one of the players that spring to mind, especially when recalling how outstanding his assist for Bernardo Silva’s equaliser in City’s 3-3 draw against Newcastle United was.

The same can be said for Ilkay Gundogan, whose flicked finish against Everton is one of the most innovative goals to have been scored in the Premier League for a few years.

Nedum Onuoha says only Erling Haaland can score the goal he did against Borussia Dortmund at home last season

Especially looking back at last season, such a claim can be made about several City players, with John Stones also adapting to his much-discussed hybrid role in a way that not many defenders can and that too, mid-season.

Also, how Kyle Walker managed to keep Vinicius Junior quiet in the Champions League, which perhaps another 33-year-old full-back like him from his generation might find an impossible task.

On the first episode of Netflix’s Together: Treble Winners documentary, Nedum Onuoha was referring to the acrobatic goal from Erling Haaland against Borussia Dortmund last season.

“The finish from [Erling] Haaland was absolutely incredible. I would say only he can do that in this generation”, he said about the £51 million man’s strike.

Another trait that makes Erling Haaland so dangerous

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who the Norwegian was compared to by Joleon Lescott might be the only striker in history who could score such a goal.

As a result, Nedum Onuoha was right to emphasise just how special of a finish Erling Haaland had produced against his former club.

Haaland scored an overhead kick against Southampton as well last season and for Dortmund as well, he has dispatched multiple acrobatic strikes in the back of the net like against Schalke and Union Berlin.

This very ability allows the 23-year-old to be able to have such a variety in the types of finishes he can execute and is why his presence in the box is such a worry for defences.
